Here's a listing of some of the questions we are most frequently asked, along with their corresponding answers.

Q: With what range of window sizes does The Jamb Spreader work?
A: The standard-size tool is adjustable and works with windows having sash widths from 22.25" to 38.75" (glass widths from 20" to 36"). An available extension piece allows the standard tool to work with sash widths up to 42.75".  We also offer two other tool sizes which fit sash widths as small as 18.25" and as large as 50.5".

Q: Why don't you just make a standard tool that fits all window sizes?
A: Customer feedback has told us that our standard tool fits at least 90% of residential applications, so we've seen that it provides a good balance between fitment and price. A tool made to fit all window sizes would be significantly more expensive to produce, as it would need to more than double in length to adjust from the smallest (approx. 18") to the largest (40"+) residential window size.  For most situations, our standard-size tool provides a total solution at the most economical price.

Q: What other products does Window Tools sell?
A: Currently, we produce and market three Jamb Spreader sizes and two related accessories. We also offer The Curtain Spreader, our newest patented product! This helpful new tool is a "sister" product to The Jamb Spreader. As its name suggests, The Curtain Spreader spreads your curtains conveniently out of the way during sash tilting, making your cleaning chores much easier (as well as saving your curtains!). We also now offer hard-to-find window replacement parts, as well as professional window- washing equipment (extension poles, squeegees, etc). We're always looking for helpful window-related products to offer. New product ideas can take a long time to get from "the drawing board" to the market, but if you have an idea that you believe in, don't give up!

Q: How do I know if The Jamb Spreader will work with my double-hung windows?
A: All you need to do is check a few items.  If you can answer "Yes" to both of the   questions below, The Jamb Spreader will very likely work with your windows. If you answer "No" to either of these questions, however, the tool likely will not be compatible.

  1. Were your windows manufactured after 1975?, and, if so...
  2. Do your sashes slide on flexible vinyl jambs that can be compressed into the window frame?

Also, check our Manufacturers Page to see if the name of your window manufacturer is shown. If it is, there's a better chance that your units are compression-jamb windows. In any case, however, it's a good idea to check with your window dealer and/or the manufacturer. Just ask if your windows have compression jambs and are designed to tilt inward for cleaning.

Q: Where can I purchase The Jamb Spreader?
A: You can purchase The Jamb Spreader through many resellers of high-quality windows, doors, and millwork. Some of these resellers even provide a complimentary Jamb Spreader tool to each of their new window installation customers. You may also purchase The Jamb Spreader directly from Window Tools, Inc.
