THE JAMB SPREADER STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Below are the step-by-step instructions for using the Jamb Spreader. Like any tool, The Jamb Spreader will provide you with the best results when used safely and properly. Please DO NOT attempt to use this product until you have completely read and understand these important instructions for use.

Your home's quality double-hung windows have snug-fitting vinyl jambs that provide you with superior thermal protection from the outside elements. This window type also includes a convenient tilt feature which allows you to clean the outside glass from indoors. To tilt your window sashes inward for cleaning, you must first spread the vinyl jambs slightly. The Jamb Spreader provides you with the leverage to easily spread your snug-fitting vinyl jambs and hold them in place so you can tilt and clean your sashes.

Step #1

Raise bottom window sash about 6" to 9".

Step #2

Holding The Jamb Spreader horizontally, loosen wing nut and adjust length to fit between your window's vinyl jamb liners. Then remove tool from window and lengthen an additional 1/4" to 1/2." Tighten wing nut to fix tool's length in place.

Step #3

Hold tool diagonally, with the right end higher than the left. A few inches above the open sash, fit the left end onto left jamb liner, then lower the right end until it contacts the right jamb liner.

Step #4

Holding the left end of the tool firmly in place, carefully slide the right end downward until The Jamb Spreader is horizontal. DO NOT USE BRUTE FORCE! You will see the jamb liners spread as you pull downward.

Step #5

Carefully proceed according to the window manufacturer's instructions for tilting, cleaning, and replacing the sashes. While lower sash is tilted, repeat these steps to tilt the upper sash. Once both sashes are back in place, carefully remove The Jamb Spreader from your window.

Helpful Hints:

  • For ease of use, lubricate vinyl jamb liners with furniture wax, car wax, or silicone.
  • Once you've adjusted the tool to the proper length for a given window width, simply mark its position with a pencil for easy future use.
  • Store tool in a dry place.

Warnings:

When adjusted and used according to the manufacturer's instructions, The Jamb Spreader will not require excessive force to adequately spread flexible vinyl jamb liners. If you cannot slide the tool into the described horizontal position using only a firm touch, STOP! Remove the tool from your window, re-adjust It to a slightly shorter length, and try again.

The Jamb Spreader Is meant to act ONLY on your windows' flexible vinyl jamb liners, NOT on any fixed or inflexible part of the window frame or trim. The Jamb Spreader's length will need to be adjusted for use with different window widths. Since the product will work with many different window brands and sizes, the user MUST be certain to consult and follow the manufacturer's Instructions for his/her particular windows while using The Jamb Spreader.
